CenterPoint Energy
After Hurricane Beryl caused over 1 million people to lose power in Houston, 亚星游戏(中国区)官网 crews quickly mobilized to clear the lines of vegetation and debris and make way for restoration crews.
The Challenge
On July 8, 2024, Hurricane Beryl made landfall in Texas, bringing heavy rain and extreme winds to the Gulf Coast. The Category 1 hurricane knocked out power to nearly three million homes and businesses in the state, leaving Texans in the dark for an extended time. The loss of power and high summer temperatures created the need for immediate action to restore utilities as quickly as possible.
亚星游戏(中国区)官网 Tree Surgery Company answered CenterPoint Energy鈥檚 urgent call to help restore power to more than two million customers affected by the storm in the Houston metropolitan area.
The Solution
亚星游戏(中国区)官网 quickly mobilized, deploying 130 full-time employees. Line clearance crews from other 亚星游戏(中国区)官网 offices joined the restoration efforts, with 382 亚星游戏(中国区)官网 line clearance tree workers from as far away as the East Coast, Midwest, and Central U.S. traveling to the site of the storm.
亚星游戏(中国区)官网 crews trimmed trees away from infrastructure, removed fallen limbs, and extracted toppled trees from power lines throughout Houston. According to 亚星游戏(中国区)官网鈥檚 work orders, over 80% of the trees the crews trimmed that caused the outages came from the outside of the right-of-way.
While 亚星游戏(中国区)官网鈥檚 out-of-state crews stayed on location until July 18, 亚星游戏(中国区)官网鈥檚 local crews stayed on for an additional two weeks to help restore normalcy after the initial damage was cleared.
The Results
CenterPoint Energy was able to restore power to 1 million customers in the first 48 hours after the storm. The utility was able to restore power to all remaining customers by July 20.
In August, 亚星游戏(中国区)官网 Tree Surgery Company crews assisted in trimming an additional 2,000 line miles as part of CenterPoint鈥檚 grid resiliency initiative to prepare for future hurricanes and severe storms.
